Aloha

My name is Gaylin which is not an easy one to find on any souvenir trinket. I grew up in sunny Orange County California and dreamed of traveling the world . In 2017 is when a spontaneous trip to Maui occurred where my heart fell in love- as many others also experience - with the slow calm pace of the island . In an attempt to describe it I had never felt so “whole” as I did sitting here in Maui soaking up the sun . That feeling is what sparked the itch to make the jump from California over to Hawaii. Upon journeying back to the mainland decided HI was the place to be so with two months of a lot of go go go made the jump to Maui.I am so incredibly thankful to be living here + connecting with the sweet community of friends who have become like family.

As for my career photography was a passion my father had so I grew up appreciating it but majored in Marine Biology as my career choice. Funny though the doors that life can open and in 2015 is when I fell in love with capturing moments of friends/family thus this business was born. I initially started out as a brand and editorial photographer for commercial companies but in 2017 expanded into wedding + lifestyle photography. Now having been in this business for almost a decade I am so incredibly grateful for the connections that have formed from the wonderful clients I have had the pleasure of photographing.

Having grown up with a very outdoor lifestyle when not zipping around the island for sessions spending time outside has continued on where can often be found out hiking, hanging down at the beach, diving in the ocean, or dreaming up new adventures to go on. A few of my vices are sunflower seeds, nachos, and an ice cold chai tea. I like to consider myself pretty laid back and a bit of a goof where I definitely make some dad jokes during sessions but always like keep our time together a whole lot fun. Photos as we all know are a great way to preserve memories but might as well make some awesome ones while capturing those beautiful shots .

A few of my Favorites

  • Chai tea

  • Riding in an airplane

  • My family + our family pets : 4 cuddly cats, 2 sassy bunnies, and an energetic corgi

  • traveling and seeing new corners of the globe

  • equal lover of sunshine and rainy weather

  • spending time outside

  • florals and vibrant colors

MY DRIVE

Still reading on this page ? If you care to hear a little more about what fuels my photography this section will answer that . I grew up as an only child raised by my father who as stated above in my about section shared his passion for photography with me starting at a very young age. However, as much as I loved snapping away on photos I absolutely despised being in front of the camera ( still to this day working to be better at that , a little ironic isn’t it ? But I do understand how uncomfortable it can be being in front of a camera which is why my approach with clients is so relaxed ). I can count on both of my hands the number of photos I have with my father from my teenage years into my early 20’s - it was not for his lack of trying to get me to jump into family photos but from me shying away from them. In 2016 on a drive home from a new hike in Southern California with my father behind the wheel our car was hit head on by a driver not paying attention with k rail's preventing us from steering out of the way and then rear ended by the driver who was behind our vehicle. I lost my father that day. I had of course taken photos during our hike and agreed to one photo where I was in it with my father at the top of the summit which was on my phone. Exactly one week out from being released from the hospital while planning my father’s funeral and trying to figure out the new direction of my family’s life my phone broke and I lost that photo forever. That was the most recent photo I had with my dad in over two years.

Now I realize all of that is not normal for many people to go through in life but it does make me sad when I go through the photos of my young adult life when I was with my father almost every day with no photos of our adventures together. That experience of course changed my life in so many ways but with my career it really altered my perspective of photography. When I take photos I do not view them as the “vacation photo snap” even if my clients do. My hope is that the images I capture bring you joy whether they are reminding you of fond vacation memories, a time when your child was small enough to easily swoop up in your arms, or when a loved one was here with you.

The experience

“I found Gaylin via Instagram and contacted her on short notice prior to our family trip to Maui. She is super responsive and so easy to work with. I knew that from our initial emails and texts that this would be an "easy" photo shoot, especially with a 15 month old in tow. We met Gaylin in the morning on the beach and she immediately made us feel comfortable. This wasn't just a ton of posed shots -- Gaylin allowed us to be in our element, to enjoy”

"Gaylin was fantastic to work with! She recommended a great location for our maternity shoot and was very easy to communicate with.

Our photos turned out great. Would highly recommend her!"

“Gaylin, our photographer, was simply awesome. Aside from loving her portfolio and receiving wonderful pictures that I imagined, working with her was great. Communication was top notch - she was responsive, flexible, and super informative (we had to work around some weather).

She was easygoing and engaging with our 5-year-old. It's always stressful trying to wrangle your family for photos - especially while on a trip in a different time zone. Gaylin made the morning as smooth as possible. Mahalo!"
