Downtown San Diego Engagement Photoshoot
When I first visited Little Italy in Downtown San Diego I immediately knew I needed to do a session there. The vibe is so eclectic and even with all the bustle it was so exciting to explore ! Honestly the way I described it to my island friends was it felt like an adult Disneyland. With this said when going over possible locations for a couple’s photoshoot in San Diego with S + M I quite literally shouted “YES” when they chose Little Italy.
I had first been introduced to S + M when I had the honor of photographing their engagement photos in Maui back in 2022. Fast forward to this year where I had the privilege of documenting their wedding at Kona Kai in San Diego where they reside ( view that beautiful day here ) . When coming back to San Diego having become friends with this sweet couple we knew a photoshoot was a 100% yes in SD. Even though Little Italy is a photographer’s dream with its fun cafes, gorgeous architecture, and stunning lighting it was a place that S + M held dear to their hearts having lived in that area when first moving to San Diego. The couple announced they are relocating to Florida come the new year so capturing some photos in a place they made so many precious memories at was pretty special.
Though I understand how when spending money on a session one may want to use those images for that year’s holiday card this session was all about keeping things in a documentary manner. The day we had the shoot scheduled for was the same day the Little Italy Farmer’s Market was taking place which really added a fun vibe to the shots. My view was that it was important for S + M to fully enjoy this spot as they naturally have all these years while I photographed away without too much interference. Us photographers can scream from the rooftops , “ DOCUMENTING REAL UNPOSED MOMENTS”, but let’s be real - we are totally still throwing out poses where this is what it’s like to have more true unfiltered captures. It may not be that look at the camera Christmas card shot but when these images are hanging on the walls how amazing that what was going on in that moment was authentic.
