Favorite Food Stops On Maui's West Side
Traveling anywhere can be a little overwhelming at times when it comes to finding places to grab a bite. Google can shed some light on restaurants with the highest Yelp reviews but sometimes that best Kalua Pork sliders don’t always come from the top rated but from places that are little hidden gems. Whether you are staying South Side or West here is a list of a few of my favorite places here on island to grab a bite :
Down The Hatch | Front Street Lahaina |
This outdoor bar is pretty well known both of island and on for its amazing dishes and drinks. It is a family friendly but also serves as the perfect spot to go if you do have a night out without any little ones. DTH has some amazing lunch + dinner specials but my personal favorite time to venture here is for breakfast . Their breakfast menu is only served until 10:30AM and well worth hitting up before any of excursions you might have planned that day. A few of my families favorites are the following :
French Toast Tower | hawaiian sweetbread, bananas, strawberries, blueberries,
local haupia ice cream, maple syrup
Breakfast Nachos | home fries, melted cheese, bacon, chorizo, sausage gravy, sunny side up egg, green onion
(add crispy pork belly)
Mini French Toast | homemade banana bread, lilikoi cream cheese ** This is our seven year old son’s favorite
Avocado Toast | toasted ax seed bread, avocado, roasted garlic cream cheese, tomatoes and red onion, sunny side up egg, sprouts
They also have some wonderful Acai Bowl choices to choose from if you are wanting some smoothie like goodness to start your day along with smoothies served at their attached shop BreakWall.
** For those of drinking age we love to pair our meals with their Lahaina Sunrise Carafe with our meal choice.
If going later in the day their Lava Lava Shrimp + Mermaid Fries are incredible
Belle Surf Cafe | Front Street Lahaina |
Decked out in hanging plants , macrame, and all the good boho vibes tucked a little ways back from street view across from Lahaina’s famous Banyan Tree is this perfect little cafe to stop in for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. This little spot has indoor + outdoor seating areas which I love to use to get some editing done while grabbing a delicious bite off their menu. Along with their many food, drink, and smoothie options they also sell work of local island artisans in their store which range from handmade mugs, beach towels, paintings , clothing , music, etc. that all make for wonderful souvenirs/gifts to loved ones while supporting local. These are a few of my go-to’s off of their menu :
Avo Toast | Hands down the best avocado toast I have ever had . It is made up of French Bread , Avocado , Feta Cheese , Olive Oil, Zest of Lime, Himalayan Salt , Cracked Black Pepper ( option to add Hemp Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds , or Sprouts )

Nutella Latte | Double Espresso, Milk of Choice, Nutella
Cool Cats Cafe | Front Street Lahaina |
If you are a lover of Ruby’s Diner or any all around amazing cheeseburger with fries + a shake then this spot should be a must on your travel list. Here some family favorites of their class burgers , vegetarian goodness, and adult shakes : ** Also be sure to always check out their creative monthly special
Luna Burger | This fabulous burger is dressed with avocado, bacon, melted jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, sweet Maui onions, mayo and thousand island dressing.
The Duke Burger | Two delicious strips of bacon, melted cheese, and golden onion rings, all covered in our special BBQ sauce.
Don Ho Burger | Our famous burger topped with pineapple, bacon, and melted jack cheese. Smothered with our homemade sweet Hawaiian sauce.
Patsy Klien ( vegetarian option and my go-to in general for how yummy it is ) | Grilled sourdough with melted jack cheese, two mild Ortega chili peppers with mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and sweet Maui onions. ( option to add a Veggie Burger )
* Adult B-52 Shake | KAHLUA, BAILEY’S IRISH CREAM LIQUEUR AND GRAND MARNIER BLENDED WITH YOUR CHOICE OF LOCALLY MADE ROSELANI BRAND CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA ICE CREAM. ** I love to go with Chocolate
* Adult Banana Foster | TUACA AND BANANA LIQUEUR BLENDED WITH FRESH BANANAS, HOMEMADE CARAMEL SAUCE AND LOCALLY MADE ROSELANI BRAND VANILLA ICE CREAM
And all of their milkshakes are incredible so cannot list a favorite there
4. Prison Street Pizza | Lahaina |
After a long day of adventuring there is just something about ending the day with some good pizza or a pizza to go while sitting on the beach watching the sunset. Prison street is my go to for some of the best pizza on the island though they also serves salads, sandwiches, calzones , and appetizers. Here’s a few of their best :
Grandma’s | Alfredo Sauce, Chicken Breast , Spinach , Garlic, Mozzarella cheese
Windmills | Pesto base, Mozzarella cheese, Goat cheese, Roasted red peppers
S-Turns | Mozzarella cheese , Sausage , Ricotta, Mushrooms, Red onion, Pizza sauce
5. Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice | Front Street, Lahaina | ( there are several locations on island )
One of the biggest treats here on island is not just the pretty views but the shaved ice. Coming from California I had never had shaved ice until we moved to island - game.changer.for.sure. Now a lot of places here to serve this cool treat but the best is from Ululani’s . Shaved ice if you have yet to experience it is what it sounds like - frozen ice similar to a snow cone but MUCH finer due to it being shaved off a block of ice and topped with delicious flavors + served with ice cream. It is the perfect treat for anytime of the day ! Here are a few favorites flavors :
Green Tea
Pineapple
Litchi
Cotton Candy
Blue Hawaii
Passion Fruit
** There is a very large variety of flavors to choose from along with different bases + toppings such as toasted coconut
6. L&L Hawaiian BBQ | Lower Honoapillani Rd |
If you want some real Hawaiian dishes that are very inexpensive but blow your mind then L&L is the place to go. It is a staple in our family’s weekly dinner where we order food to go at least once during the week . Ready to go orders only take around 10 minutes and the portion size is very filling . It is a great way to dine without breaking the bank at all while tasting some of the best Maui has to offer.
Loco Moco | Savory hamburger patties over rice, topped with brown gravy and 2 fresh fried eggs.
Kalua Pork w/ Cabbage | Smoke-flavored, slowly-roasted shredded pork, combined with fresh cabbage.
BBQ Beef Bowl | L&L’s tantalizing barbecue beef served with steamed vegetables on a bed of rice.
BBQ Cheeseburger OR Garden Burger | A delicious, juicy ground beef patty with cheese featuring our L&L House Special BBQ sauce.
French Fries w/ Gravy
BBQ Mix Plate| A mouthwatering combination of succulent beef, chicken, and short ribs.
There are SO many mouth watering places to grab food at here but the above are my top favorites. I do urge you when visiting if you happen to to McDonald’s try the local dishes they offer on the menu. The ABC stores even have certain locations which serve amazinggg dishes as well. Don’t be afraid to try things that are a tad out of your comfort zone x
